A closer look...

As I said earlier, it was Audrey Niffengger who inspired the creation of this blog. I have now found a copy of 'The Time Traveler's Wife, and as it is the holidays, I thought I would reread it, instead of just looking up the lottery numbers ( in any case I'm sure they would prove elusive as all information does when you are looking for it.) As I have been focusing on numbers, I noticed an odd thing with the number of locks in Henry's apartment. The first time he has to open 17 locks on the door to his apartment, yet on the same page he exits and locks 37 locks. Thus exit is harder than entry. Then on the same night, Henry re-enters his apartment undoing 107 locks on the way. That's about as far as I have read, but I consider it an odd notion to change the locks all the time. Having completed an English degree with Honours, I feel I should be able to come up with a plausible reason for changing the locks. Perhaps the aforementioned pun was intended. Perhaps changing the locks signals that reality is not settled around Henry. The locks must increase in numbers of 7 to signify that Henry is increasingly trying to hold onto a reality that constantly slides through his fingers. I wish I'd asked that question instead of the one about lottery numbers, but I guess I had to be focusing on numbers to realise that there was even an issue at stake. I may have to leave this as a sort of 'watch this space' whilst I complete the rest of the book with a focus on numbers.
